A letter to startups who went through a GAN accelerator

If you’ve ever flown on the U.S.-based airline carrier Southwest Airlines, you know they typically end your flight saying “we know you have a choice in airlines, and we’re thankful you chose Southwest.” It’s a nice, friendly way for them to say thanks. When it comes to getting support to get your startup off the ground or even just an education, we know you have a lot of choices and…..

We’re thankful that 3300 of you around the world have chosen to go through a GAN accelerator.

But not only are we thankful – we’re proud of you because you’ve done incredibly well. Here’s what we mean…

You’re raising the money you need to grow. If you’ve gone through a GAN accelerator, you typically raise an average of $923K. A majority of you are getting funded within 12 months of graduation and most of this funding is coming from your local angel investors.

You’re creating a ton of jobs. On average each of you has created almost 7 jobs. Even cooler is the fact that most of you are keeping your company’s headquarters in the city where you went through the accelerator which means a lot of new, local jobs.

You’re staying in business. 83% of you that have gone through a GAN accelerator are either still in business or acquired. The startup world is risky, but this speaks to your teams’ hard work and the support from your accelerator, mentors, and investors.

This translates into some pretty powerful numbers. 22,000 jobs have been created that didn’t exist a few years ago. 2,700 companies are still in business throughout the world. And $4.3B in funding has been invested in you to create valuable companies around the world.

You are doing amazing things as you innovate, create jobs, and make a positive impact on your local communities (as well as the rest of the world). On behalf of the GAN team and accelerators, congratulations on all of your success. We can’t wait to see what you accomplish in 2016.

We just put a bunch of other stats about GAN startups in an infographic so if you want to see more, you can check it out below.
