Founder Profile: ShopSpot

ShopSpot is a mobile app that makes buying and selling items as easy as tweeting! Just find something you want to sell, then Snap, Tag, and Post. That’s it. It’s for anyone who wants to get rid of tired old stuff, but too lazy to do it on a traditional online marketplace.

In the Founder Spotlight, we highlight a great company that is proceeding through a GAN program or is a recent alumni. Natsakon Kiatsuranon of ShopSpot joined us this time to tell us about his company, accelerator experience and their next steps. ShopSpot “makes selling stuff as easy as sending a tweet.”

Tell me about ShopSpot and the problem it solves?

What does the work culture at ShopSpot look like?

We have 7 team members. Our team consists of 1 business guy, 4 software engineer geeks, and 2 sophisticated designers. ShopSpot’s culture is quite casual and natural because most of our team has been friends since high school and university. We have a flat hierarchy and very open-minded culture within the founding team. Also, we are big fans of lean startup and agile development. We have learned and developed our working style towards having a strong focus, fast pace & high efficiency during the JFDI-Innov8 bootcamp.

Tell me about your experience at JDFI and how it shaped your company?

We all think that JFDI is the best experience so far in our startup life. Through the intense 100 days in the bootcamp, we developed a better understanding of how to be good tech entrepreneurs and build a successful tech-business. There is a lot of knowledge, experience, and networking to be shared within the pool of great mentors and startups in the bootcamp. This experience was an eye-opener and has prepped us to be a better team as we grow into our next stage.

Demo Day was nearly 2 months ago, what are the next milestones for ShopSpot?

Just EXECUTE FAST! We are very lucky to have great investors and mentors who are aligned in their goals for the company in the next 6-12 months. As of now, we need to streamline the whole product UX across 2-3 major platforms (iOS & Android). There is still a lot to do in product perspective. After we have the product ready, we will scale it across 5-6 countries in this region. Our ambition is to do for mobile commerce what Instagram has done for photo sharing and what Twitter did with micro-blogging. We’re at the start of a long journey. Please stay tuned!
